Caersol (/caersol/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in Gûhyâ Hûvi Dutchy, Dāmêvr Kingdom, within the Sylvanian Empire.

The name Caersol is derived from the Sylvin language, as Caersol was founded by Laerguldes Allred, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Caersol has a yearly average temperature of 19°C (66°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a warm 28°C (82°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 11°C (51°F). Caersol receives an average of 277 cm/y (109 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the summer. Caersol covers an area of nearly 5 km2 (2 mi2), and an average elevation of 420 m (1377 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Caersol was founded durring the late 13th century in winter of the year 1183, by Laerguldes Allred. The establishment of Caersol was only bairly constructed. The sheer number of problems with its founding were enough to make several of the backers funding Caersol's construction back out of the project. Laerguldes Allred pushed on reguardles, and Caersol was finished, but starts off as a terible place to live.

Caersol was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 13th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Caersol is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature waddle and daub construction with good timber frames and a stone foundation protected by thatched or shingled rooves. Most buildings with second floors are built in such a way as to overhang into the streets on the upper floors for more space, as building size seems to be the primary indicator of wealth within the community. Most buildings are not decorated with any integral features, but instead use ivy, flowers, and other natural elements in planters of on trellices to breathe life into the structure they grow upon.

Caersol is buildings are arranged arrounded a highly ordered system of premissive cobblestone streets which form triangular paterns, allowing the incides of the octagons to be common grounds for the buildings on the edges, be it for parkland, yardspace, plazas, or markets. The town is the proud owner of a properly designed set of renforced walls made from mighty querried stone blocks. Their construction and material choices would make a dwarf weap with joy, for each and every part of the elaborate fortifications are purly functional and robust well byond reason. Even nonexperts can tell the walls are an excelent defencive structure. Unfortuantly, these exceptionaly well made fortifications are in extreem disrepair, so much so that one cannot tell if they are decaying from a lack of mantance or damage incured.

Your first impression of Caersol proves to be right on the money. This town is where the rebels chose to settle. Fashion trends are quite simply the opposite of what’s popular in the other nearby communities. THis trend extends everywhere. Things that should be black are white, what would normally be square is organically curved, and what is typically unthinkable for polite society is more than welcome in this public square. Up to the logical limits, of course. There’s no flaying someone alive to eat their skin going on, but the women are dressed a little immodestly, the men are a little more emotional, and the food is all overly complex and terrible.

Civic Infrastructure

Caersol has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Caersol.

Caersol has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Caersol has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Caersol has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Caersol's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Caersol possesses a Galvanic Power Grid, which brings galvanic current to most if not all buildings in town, and permits a great many consumer goods to function within the Town. Caersol's grid is powered by hydrogalvanic generators.

Caersol possesses an older civil lighting system consisting of street lamps. In spite of the Galvanic Grid, these lights continue to use their old fule sources to provide nighttime illumination to all city streets.

Caersol has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.

Caersol has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Caersol has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Cultural Notes

Caersol's mayor's house was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is best known for its functional shapes, abstract shapes used sparingly for decor, simple color schemes, holistic design, and basic industrial materials. Its simple designs were created to be beautiful, functional, and mass-producible. The style used little to no embellishment or ornamentation, instead drawing attention to the streamlined design, such as flat roofs to create a simple, geometric look. The simplicity masks the style's nearly sinister functionality, as every last feature is designed to guide the people living in the building in how to make the most efficient use of the structure.

In Caersol hail is always enormous, yet harmlessly plinks off people, creatures, and structures.

The Snake, Venomous near Caersol are known to be almost tame, such that they can be put to domestic use.

Caersol's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in summer and involves square dance to channel Enchantment energies of tier 3 via chanting.

Economy

The following information was obtained via the Imperial Census Bureau as part of the Eyom Economic Outreach Program. Caersol is a major trade hub, connecting several important cities or resource production areas. It’s probably at an important river juncture, ancient crossroads, or occupying the only safe path through some perilous wilderness. Its position may be important enough that it can survive on trade alone, despite being unable to feed itself with the surrounding land. Such hubs are usually heavily garrisoned by the lord who profits from their tariffs and taxes.

History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the late 2nd century heavy spring rains following an uncharacteristically dry year and a minor earthquake resulted in the collapse of the south east side of Doom Valley. the landslide struck Caersol, and devastated the community. 222 people, 294 livestock, and 46 buildings were lost to the calamity. The disaster is recorded in history as Doom's Fall.
